Overview
SQD recently rebranded from Subsquid and shared its vision beyond indexing. During an X AMA on July 18th, CEO and Co-Founder Dmitry Zhelezov discussed the company’s future direction with community members.
Rebranding Thoughts
The rebrand signals SQD’s transition from R&D to production-ready status. As Dmitry explains, the next phase involves expanding beyond indexing to serve sectors like AI, analytics, and dApps.
Philosophical Association
Dmitry draws inspiration from Plato, emphasizing ideas discovered rather than invented. He notes that at SQD, things evolve based on their internal logic, much like how influential ideas emerge independently across academia.
Current Focus: Indexing
SQD helps developers observe smart contract events and organize onchain data for UI display. Notable users include Railgun (privacy solutions) and Decentraland, which recently migrated their infrastructure to SQD for improved speed and flexibility over competitors like The Graph.
The Broader Vision
SQD’s end-game extends far beyond current indexing services. The company envisions powerful data extraction at scale, potentially using SQLite to bring data closer to users while maintaining privacy through client-side replication.
Web2 Competition
Dmitry believes SQD could eventually offer significantly lower data access costs than Web2 solutions by leveraging distributed retail hardware.
Enterprise Expansion
SQD has partnered with Google Cloud and Deutsche Telekom, attracting enterprises with flexible solutions avoiding vendor lock-in.
Near-Term Priorities
Gateway 2.0 represents a major initiative to eliminate RPC-based data access for dApps.
