SQD CEO Dmitry held a live AMA on X (November 14th) discussing Portals, the next major roadmap item. Despite audio issues, the team documented key points for this recap.
What is Portal?
Portal represents an upgrade to the client layer between the network and SQD, delivering significant performance improvements and enhanced decentralization.
Portal vs RPC
RPCs aren’t built for extracting data at scale. They excel at transaction execution but aren’t optimized for large-scale data extraction. Typically, RPC providers prioritize transaction submission.
Portal solves this by enabling uninterrupted data streams limited only by user bandwidth, eliminating competition for resources common with public RPC endpoints.
New Possibilities
Portal enables an uninterrupted stream of data, maxed out only by your ability to consume it, with no comparable decentralized solutions offering similar capabilities and user-controlled rate limiting.
Long-term Vision
The long-term vision is the complete elimination of intermediary layers — a direct connection between devices and data.
Co-Processing
In blockchain contexts, co-processing serves as an attestation layer enabling off-chain actions triggered by on-chain events (example: automated pizza ordering when Bitcoin reaches $100k).
Token Utility & Demand
SQD is currently bootstrapping user demand. Users lock SQD tokens to exceed public rate limits. Future revenue will derive from consumer data charges, eventually contributing to token deflation through network effects reducing costs.
Upcoming Milestones
- Portal Release: Developer-focused with improved query speeds
- January: Hot Blocks launch — caching latest blocks from multiple RPC providers, eliminating indexer RPC dependency
- Future: On-chain verification, slashing, and permissionless data submission
