Overview
This article celebrates the SQD token listing across five exchanges while previewing upcoming developments in Subsquid’s data access infrastructure.
Historical Background
Subsquid’s origins trace back to Joystream, a decentralized video streaming platform built on Substrate. The team developed a query framework called Hydra to handle data delivery challenges. This technology later spun out independently to become Subsquid, which evolved from serving Substrate builders to supporting over 150 networks.
Testnet Phases
Two testnet eras preceded the mainnet launch:
- Mirovia Era (September 2023 — early 2024): Deployed 50,000 indexers across networks including Ethereum and Polygon, completing 450,000 quests
- Panthalassa Era: Tested security mechanisms for network rewards and delegation, concluding April 1, 2024
Recent Accomplishments
Notable achievements include becoming the first decentralized indexing solution for Solana, expanding to 150+ chains and layers, and collaborating with Google Cloud for data lake analytics integration.
Future Roadmap
Planned developments encompass:
- Mainnet launch enabling permissionless token delegation
- Cosmos ecosystem support
- Additional virtual machine integrations (Bitcoin, Move)
- Permissionless dataset submission
- Decentralized SQL database streaming
- Enterprise tool integration (Kafka and Snowflake)
